Repair or replace?
Not every exhaust problem means a whole new system. If the pipe is solid and only a clamp, hanger, or gasket failed, we fix that. If a single section rusted through but the rest is healthy, our specialist can cut in a new piece and weld it, which is often cheaper than a full replacement.
When the rust is widespread, replacing piecemeal just means you are back in a few months for the next section. In that case we call you, go over what is gone, and give you a written estimate for the full job so you can decide.

- Why is my car suddenly so loud?
- The most common cause is a hole or crack in the muffler or exhaust pipe, often from rust. A loud, deeper tone usually points to the muffler or a pipe behind it, while a louder sound right at startup can mean a leak closer to the engine. Bring it in and we will put it on the lift, find the exact spot, and call you with the fix.
- Can you just repair my exhaust instead of replacing the whole thing?
- Often, yes. If the rest of the system is solid and only one section, a hanger, or a clamp failed, we repair that. Because we weld our own pipe in-house, we can patch or splice a section rather than forcing you into a full replacement. We only recommend replacing the whole system when the rust is widespread enough that piecemeal repairs will not last.
- How much does a muffler replacement cost?
- It depends on your vehicle, which parts of the system are involved, and whether we can repair a section or need to replace more of it. - Do I need an emissions test or E-Check to get exhaust work done in Trumbull County?
- No. Trumbull County is not in Ohio's E-Check area, so there is no local emissions test required to drive your vehicle or to have exhaust work done. We fix exhaust problems because a loud, leaking, or rusted-out system is a comfort and safety issue, not because of any test.
- Why do mufflers rust out so fast around here?
- Northeast Ohio uses a lot of road salt in winter, and salt spray sits on the underside of your exhaust where it stays damp. That accelerates rust from the outside, while moisture inside the system works on it too. It is the main reason exhaust systems in Cortland and Trumbull County tend to wear out sooner than the rest of the vehicle.
- Is it bad to drive with a hole in my exhaust?
- A loud exhaust will not strand you on the road, but it is worth fixing sooner rather than later. A leak ahead of the muffler can let exhaust fumes reach the cabin, which you do not want, and a hanging or dragging pipe can be a hazard. A leak can also throw off the readings the engine relies on. - A low drone inside the cabin at steady highway speed often comes from a failing muffler or resonator, or from a small exhaust leak that resonates through the body. Sometimes it is a loose heat shield buzzing along. We can pin down the source on the lift and tell you whether it is a quick fix or a worn-out component.
- Do you work on exhaust for all makes and models?
- Yes. We are a NAPA Auto Care Center and we work on all makes and models, domestic and import, from passenger cars through light and medium trucks and vans. Because we fabricate pipe in-house, we can handle exhaust on vehicles where a pre-made part is hard to find.
- Do I need an appointment, or can I just stop in?
