A brake job’s cost depends on which parts need replacing (pads only, or pads plus rotors, and sometimes calipers or brake lines) and on your specific vehicle, since parts vary a lot by make and model. Pads versus a full brake job
Replacing worn pads early is the least expensive path. Wait until the pads are gone and the rotors are scored, and you are paying for rotors too. Calipers, brake hoses, or a fluid flush add cost only when the inspection shows they are needed.
Catching brakes at the squeal stage rather than the grind stage is the simplest way to keep the cost down.
